Are there supplements that can help with mental health? If so, which ones?
This is a question that has been asked for a very long time. On one side you have strong advocates of nutritional supplements that swear by their benefits, and on the other you have a scientific community that says there isn’t enough evidence to make such claims. Until now, most of the research and information that was gathered has been inconclusive, leaving us to wonder where the truth lies.
But now, a major review may be able to explain which supplements have shown the most promise for specific mental health conditions.
Researches looked at data from all over the world and treatments performed in over 10,000 individuals, looking at which supplements seemed to improve the symptoms of conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD and schizophrenia.
Supplements can be very beneficial, in my opinion, for many conditions, but they are usually most effective for prevention, and not as cures. If you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid illnesses in the future, having a steady regimen of nutritional supplements could definitely help in keeping your body ticking right.
However, in chronic conditions like mental illness, you have to make sure to also follow your doctor’s recommendation and, if needed, take the prescribed medications you are given, and not only rely on these supplements as a complete fix. Remember that in life everything must be balanced, and in your treatment, this should be applied as well.
